A generic device is added into the SDM database in the same way any device is added, using the Add Device feature, but selecting Generic as the device type.

  1. Select Configuration > Add Device from the Menu bar. The Add New Device window displays.
  2. Select Generic from the Type drop-down menu. For more detailed instructions, refer to Add New Devices when adding a generic device to the SDM.
  3. Launch the Device Properties page for the generic device; refer to the Configuration and Status in the SDM Quick Start Guide.
  4. Select Configuration and Status on the Device Properties page.
  5. Configure the Boot File Path, Vendor Magic Cookie, and any vendor-specific Tag/Values on the Configuration and Status tab. Refer to the discussion of Generic Device Configuration & Status in Generic Device Support for further details on configuring a generic device for bootp operation. In the example below, the Boot File Path would be set to /home/sdm/- boot/generic/vendor1/vendor1Device1/device1.fof.
  6. Select the Administration tab on the Device Properties page.
  7. Select Unconditional in the Management Control Parameters panel.
  8. Manually reboot the generic device.
  9. Observe the Event Viewer in the SDM client to ensure the BootP and TFTP operations successfully complete for the generic device.
