The Performance Statistics Feature enables the SDM to collect various device operational statistics and store them in a collection of historical time windows (or time slots). The statistics data then is available to the SDM user in real time for troubleshooting and/or performance analysis. Additionally, the SDM will generate alarms when certain statistics reach configurable thresholds.
Polls are provided in:
- SDM software releases
- device firmware releases
- poll libraries, which can be downloaded from Digital CM
Polls in poll libraries require entitlements, and can be installed at the convenience of the customer.
The SDM supports performance statistics polling for a number of devices. Additional polls for other devices will be added in future device firmware releases. See Devices Supported by the SDM for more information.
The SDM also supports DAC Program Queue Monitoring. This is only relevant for DAC.SW firmware. See DAC Program Queue Monitoring Setup for details on enabling this capability.
The SDM is also capable of collecting and reporting on Interactive Path statistics. Interactive Paths consist of either Upstream or Downstream devices that connect through a Network Controller (NC 1500) device. Paths containing an NC 1500 and OM 1000/2000 are considered Downstream paths. Paths containing an NC 1500 and RPD/ARPD are considered Upstream Paths. Statistics data for the ARPD device is only available through the Upstream Path statistics poll reports, not through device-specific polls.
The SDM Performance Statistics feature is made up of the following three main functional components:
- Data collection and storage
- Reporting
- Threshold Monitoring
When enabled, the SDM will collect statistics from the device at configurable intervals and store them in the database. The SDM will maintain these statistics over a configurable amount of time. A user cannot explicitly delete stored data; the data will phase out over time. See Configure Statistics Storage Duration for more information.
Once the statistics are stored, the SDM user can generate reports either for display in HTML or for export in XML. See Performance poll reports overview for more information.
The SDM user can also configure statistics thresholds and have the SDM generate alarms when certain statistics exceed the thresholds. See Configure performance polls for more information.
