NOTE: By default, BOOTP processing is disabled on discovered devices. When BOOTP is enabled and the device is rebooted, the firmware version changes to the discovered version.
- If the firmware for a specific device type is not installed on the SDM, any devices of that type are not discovered.
- If a device type is not supported by the SDM, any devices of that type are not discovered.
- If the firmware installed on the SDM is newer than the firmware of the device, upon discovering the device the SDM manages the device at the firmware version installed on the SDM. For example, if the SDM has OM 1000 firmware version 3.4.1 installed, and you discover an OM 1000 that has firmware version 3.3.0, the SDM discovers the OM 1000 under version 3.4.1. To continue with the upgrade, you must then set BOOTP for the device to unconditional and then BOOTP the device.
- If you want the SDM to manage the device at the actual firmware version (the lower version) of the device, install the corresponding version of firmware (the lower version that matches the device), delete the device from the SDM, and then rediscover the device.
- If the version of firmware installed on the SDM is a lower version number than the actual firmware version of the device, the SDM discovers the device at the firmware version installed on the SDM. For example, if the SDM has OM 1000 firmware version 3.3.0 installed, and you discover an OM 1000 that has firmware version 3.4.1, the SDM discovers the OM 1000 under version 3.3.0.
- If you want the SDM to manage the device at the actual firmware version (the higher version) of the device, install the corresponding version of firmware (the higher version that matches the device), delete the device from the SDM, and then add the device back.
- A device firmware version may use a default community string that is newer than that used by an earlier firmware version. If a device is at a firmware version which has not been installed on the SDM, then the SDM may not be able to discover the device. Install the corresponding version of firmware on the SDM, and then discover the device.
