Capturing Ethernet data can potentially cause performance issues:

  1. When the input rate is high (greater than 60 Mbps):
    • Captures running for more than 8 hours may cause the hard drive of the SDM to become full.
    • Long retention interval settings for the PCAP file and Ethernet statistical data can cause the hard drive of the SDM to become full.
  2. Overall performance (CPU utilization) of the SDM degrades when:
    • Ethernet input data rate is high (greater than 60 Mbps)
    • More than 4 filters are applied to an Ethernet capture because all processing is spent on Ethernet capture processing.
