The SDM server supports the bootp of a generic device. The device-specific bootp files must be located on the SDM server, in the directory /home/sdm/boot/, which must be located directly under the file system root. This is necessary for the BootP and TFTP communication between the SDM and the device to work properly.

You are free to create your own file system structure under the /home/sdm/boot directory to successfully manage the boot files for each generic device instance; however, ARRIS recommends a structure similar to the following be used:

The files can be uploaded (using, for example, Secure Copy (WinSCP), CD, and so on) using the SDM user account on the server.

NOTE: WinSCP is the utility preferred by ARRIS and the mechanism to be used for copying files onto the SDM for Windows clients. A free copy of WinSCP can be obtained from: http://winscp.net.

All device-specific BootP file information (directory structure) located in the /home/sdm/boot directory is backed up as part of the existing SDM backup process. This information will also be restored during an SDM restore operation.
