The CASMR Configuration Assistant (CAST) architecture provides Multiple System Operators (MSOs) with a means to centrally control the deployment of firmware to headend devices. This includes the ability to view the operational readiness of regional sites on a nation-wide scale, so that the deployment of new services can be effectively managed.
CAST allows MSOs to coordinate the distribution of headend firmware to regional sites through a system of firmware distribution packages, so that the time required to deploy new services is minimized.
The CAST capabilities, integrated with the SDM, simplify the firmware load operation, so that the number of separate, manual SDM operations is minimized.
The MSO bundles a collection of one or more device firmware (FW) releases into one or more archives, per the CAST protocol. These are referred to as file sets. File sets are then published on one or more CAST servers.
- interface with the CAST servers
- list the file sets that are published on the CAST servers and
- download one or more published file sets.
When a file set is downloaded, the firmware archived within the file set is automatically loaded into the SDM.
