The Map and Logical views show the topology related to one fiber node on the monitored HFC network. The monitored network is based on data provided by your company. When the Fiber Node view opens, the map shows the fiber node, splitters, taps, amps, Service Locations (houses and other locations that have service), and the connections between those components. It shows the flow of power from the fiber node through the taps and splitters, leading to the Service Locations.

In Map view, black lines indicate the cable connections, and the arrows indicate the downstream flow of power.

NOTE: If multiple network elements appear stacked because they are in a shared location or cabinet, click on the stack to expand it.

The following symbols appear, depending on the data provided by your system.

  • Fiber Node
  • Splitter
  • Tap with 2 ports
  • Tap with 4 ports
  • Tap with 6 or more ports
  • Amplifier: The amplifier might or might not also contain a splitter.
NOTE: The Amplifier icon is rotated to align with the direction of the power flow. If an Amplifier is located at a change in line direction, the icon is slightly offset from the bend.
  • Service location having no MAC address. Visible only when Show Empty Service Locations is selected.
  • Service location having 1 or more MAC addresses. The number shown on the house indicates the number of modems at the service location.

For example, in Map View, this picture shows the cable running from the fiber node , south to a tap and into four service locations having one MAC address each . One branch continues southwest along W Albert Street, through a splitter , where it divides. From there, one branch goes southeast to a tap and four service locations . The other branch continues southwest along W Albert Street through two taps and then through an amplifier and another splitter . At this splitter, the cable divides into two branches.

NOTE: To see the arrows that point downstream along the cable lines, click the Show Downstream button at the top right of the map.

This picture shows the same topology in Logical View. The fiber node is at the top. The amp that is shown in the picture above appears in this picture at the amplifier depth of N + 1, where N stands for Node.
