When replacing a device, entitlements on the primary device will be duplicated on the backup device. Use this procedure to replace a device.
Open the Properties screen for the device and select the Administration tab.
Change the MAC address to the MAC address of the backup device.
Apply the change.
Physically remove the primary device from the network.
Physically add the backup device to the network.
Set BOOTP to Unconditional.
Apply the change.
Power cycle the backup device. Following the BOOTP operation, the backup device will replace the primary device.
NOTE: Attempting to replace a device by other means (for example, copying configuration files across devices) will result in loss of entitlements. Entitlements are tied to the MAC address, and therefore will be invalid on another device. In order to correctly replace a device with entitlements, the above procedure should be followed.
