Remote PHY Devices (RPDs) allow the transmission of upstream data, downstream data, and video through fiber networks instead of purely coax networks, vastly increasing bandwidth capabilities. RPDs simulate the physical transmission used in centralized architectures. By default, RPDs run in synchronous channel mode.
The Remote MAC PHY Devices (RMDs) simulate both the physical and media access control (MAC) layer processing. By default, RMDs run in asynchronous channel mode.
VTM manages the creation of service groups of streams coming downstream to the VUE that are assigned to the appropriate RxDs for distribution based on location.
