The Virtual Spectrum Analyzer displays how much power the cable modem sees at frequencies ranging from 0-1794 MHz. You should see power over certain frequencies that the modem transmits or receives on. The shape of the power is important because it ensures that channels do not interfere with one another.

Problems exist when:

  • Power is not concentrated around the intended QAMs because of poor transmit/receive.
  • Power leaks into the spectrum used by the modem.
NOTE: The Virtual Spectrum Analyzer is an optional feature that requires its own license. In order for this feature to appear in the interface, the license must exist, and the user must be assigned to a group that contains the Spectrum Analysis permission.
