In preparation for creating device groups:
Decide the hierarchy of the headend devices. Sketch a directory tree structure of group names. The following example illustrates a location-based hierarchy:
The SDM organizes device views by Networks, Groups and Inventory. These containers can be viewed by clicking on the navigaton tree on the left side of the SDM desktop. This step discusses only Groups, which are best set up before Discovery. Networks and Inventory will be discussed in the Viewing Devices step.
Creating Groups allows the user to organize devices into a custom hierarchy that is based on physical locations or logical associations. If a device has already been discovered, the user can either move the device into the desired group or delete the device and rediscover it. If no groups exist on discovery, the device is placed in the Unassigned group.
