This table lists problems associated with network configurations that can cause issues in the SDM, and the possible solutions.

If the solutions do not resolve the issue, contact the Technical Assistance Center (TAC), which is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Refer to Getting Help for additional information, including contact information.

Problem

Possible Solution

The NC 1500 is discovered as two devices.

If the SDM is configured to discover devices on a network where an NC 1500's OAM&P and APP interfaces are both configured and round table from the SDM, the SDM may discover both IP addresses. This may cause database corruption in the SDM.

To avoid this issue, in the Network Parameters dialog box of the SDM's discovery feature, specify an exclusion range for the NC 1500's APP interface.

Network partitioning

Customers who are planning to reconfigure their network (by partitioning it into small subnets) should download the SDM Tech Tip titled Network Reconfiguration Using the SDM (556027-001), prior to beginning the transition. This document is available on the Customer Support web page (see the link at top of this page). This Tech Tip provides details on the correct process for this transition, to avoid possible issues on the SDM.

Configuration synchronization.

There are several conditions that can cause the SDM to report that the device is out of sync. Please see the SDM Tech Tip, Config Sync Status (535543-001), for details on the causes and solutions for this issue.
