After you sign in to ServAssure NXT, the first screen that opens is the Global Search page.

In ServAssure NXT, you can search for any topology element on the monitored network, including Hubs, CMTSs, MAC domains, MD-CM-SGs (if the search matches a MAC address), Network View folders, and channels. You can search all topology elements, or you can search a specific category.

To search:
  1. Click SearchGlobal search icon.
  2. From the drop-down list to the left of the Search box, select a specific category or All categories. All is the default.
Global search box illustrating the different search filters: All, Fiber Notes, Cable Modems, Amplifiers, Service Locations, Splitters, Taps, Hubs, CMTS, Folders, and Channels. All, the default, is selected.
  3. In the Search box, enter a full or partial search term, and click the magnifying glass "".

The search begins as soon as you enter a character.

You can search for items such as Name, ID, Postal Code, MAC Address, CMTS name, Servicing Address, or Alarm ID.
NOTE: Postal code and Servicing Address searches will always include a Cable Modem result with a MAC address.
  4. ServAssure NXT searches the monitored network and returns the following:
    • Exact matches are listed first, followed by partial matches.
    • Partial matches are listed by category:
      • Alarms
      • Fiber Node
      • Cable Modem
      • Amplifier
      • Service Location
      • Splitter
      • Tap
      • Hub
      • CMTS
      • Folder
      • Channel
    • Search results are returned as follows:
      • If you selected All, the first 10 results for each category are listed (except channels, where 25 results are returned).
NOTE: For channels, up to 25 results are displayed. For example, a channel ID of 0/0/1 could match more than 10 entries on the same CMTS, and if limited to 10 entries, it would be impossible to search for certain channels.
      • If you selected a specific category, the first 100 results are returned.
    • The total number of results returned for each category appear below the first set search results.

If more results are available, Load more ... appears beneath the count of results. Click to load the next set of results (in the same quantity as originally listed).

    • The search results show relevant information. For example, the Cable Modem category lists MAC Addresses and the Tap category lists Component IDs.
    • Search queries can result in a CMTS context being available if any of the following are matched: part of the CMTS name, or part of a search for a Cable Modem.
NOTE: The categorization of the results relates to the data that is input for your enterprise.
    • If the item that you are searching for is not listed in the search results, refine your search term and search again.

In this example, a search for the term 9571 returns 1 exact match, which lists the MAC address of the Cable Modem as well as the CMTS it is connected with. A drop-down menu provides navigation to Alarm Central, Analyze Modem View, Analyze Network View, High Rate Polling, or Modem Sessions for this MAC address.

Search result for 9571, resulting in a MAC Address. The "Open in.." drop-down is open showing the described options.

If your search resulted in a match on a channel, the drop-down menu provides navigation to Upstream Spectrum Analyzer and Analyze Network View.

NOTE: The search function ignores colons in MAC addresses. Uppercase and lowercase letters work, as well as decimal and hex. For example, a cable modem with a MAC address of 20:3D:66:AE:3A:29 can be searched as 203D66AE3A29 or by using its decimal representation of 32.61.102.174.58.217. If you are searching for a channel on a CMTS, you can use the “@“ symbol to separate the portion of your search for the CMTS Name from the part for the Channel’s ifDescriptor.
  5. When the item for which you are searching appears in the results, click the link.

ServAssure NXT opens to the selected location. For example, if you click the ID for a fiber node, the Fiber Node view opens for the specified fiber node. If you click the Component ID for a service location, the Fiber Node view opens for the specified fiber node, with the specified service location selected.

This picture shows a list of service locations that were returned. If you click the Component ID 25, the Fiber Node view opens to the Fiber Node lowell, with the service location 25 selected.
