The Network View Hierarchy presents an overall view of Folder, Hub, and CMTS Hierarchy. It also displays MAC domains and MD-CM-SGs, based on current CMTS topology.

NOTE:
  • Inactive/deprecated service groups that may still report some offline modems are not shown in the network topology hierarchy tree.
  • ServAssure NXT creates the Service Group MD-CM-SG-0 as a placeholder for online modems when MD-CM-SG does not appear in docsIf3MdNodeStatusTable.

Select an element in the tree to change the context that all parts of the user interface present data for.

For example, if you select Global Default, you are presented with Time Over Threshold and Historical graphs, a CMTS table, and Latest Modem Counts for the whole network.
Global Default view
If you select a MAC domain, you are also presented with a Service Group Summary, Channel Summary, Modem Summary, Details, Historical graphs, and Modem Counts for that MAC domain.

The table below describes the hierarchy items and includes the contexts available in Network View.

NameDescriptionContext
FolderA logical organization of Hubs or other folders that is often used to denote regions.Available context in Network View
HubA logical or physical space that organizes multiple CMTSs.Available context in Network View
CMTSA physical device that provides connectivity between modems and the larger Internet.Available context in Network View
MAC domainA physical collection of channels and performance characteristics configured by the owner of the CMTS.Available context in Network View
MAC domain Cable Modem Service Group (MD-CM-SG)The set of modems inside the MAC domain that belong to the same Service Groups. Computed by the CMTS and based on MAC domains and modem membership.Available context in Network View
MAC domain Upstream Service Group (US-SG-xx)The complete set of Upstream Channels that all modems in this Service Group are both configured and physically able to connect to.Only visible when expanding a MD-CM-SG and when examining the Utilization categories. MD-CM-SGs can only be expanded at the MAC domain and MD-CM-SG contexts.
MAC domain Downstream Service Group (DS-SG-xx)The complete set of Downstream Channels that all modems in this Service Group are both configured and physically able to connect toOnly visible when expanding a MD-CM-SG and examining the Utilization categories. MD-CM-SGs can only be expanded at the MAC domain and MD-CM-SG contexts.
Upstream ChannelWith the exception of Cisco CMTSs, channels may only belong to one MAC domain. However, they may belong to any number of service groupsVisible in Channel Summary at CMTS, MAC domain and MD-CM-SG level. MD-CM-SGs can only be expanded at the MAC domain and MD-CM-SG contexts.
Downstream ChannelWith the exception of Cisco CMTSs, channels may only belong to one MAC domain. However, they may belong to any number of service groupsOnly visible when expanding a MD-CM-SG. MD-CM-SGs can only be expanded at the MAC domain and MD-CM-SG contexts.
Cable ModemA Cable Modem may only belong to one MAC domainVisible in Modem Summary and in Details as modem+channel pairs. Details are only present at the MAC domain and MD-CM-SG contexts.

RF Data Ingest

ServAssure NXT maintains a relationship of a MAC domain and service group each hour with RF data ingest. After each hourly RF ingest, ServAssure NXT updates/corrects the MAC domain service group relationship for modems and computes the operational modem count under MD/MDCMSG either during that hour or in the next outage scan. These modem counts are stored in the ServAssure NXT database under the KPI level in Network View. These counts under the MAC domain are updated each hour, which means the modem might have shifted MAC domain/service group during that time. It will correct itself during the hourly scan.
