Before a device can be discovered or added to the SDM, the firmware version associated with that device must be installed. You can load multiple firmware versions for each device type.

To load device firmware:

  1. Select Configuration > Firmware Management from the Menu bar. The Firmware Management summary screen displays.
NOTE: You can load multiple firmware versions for each device type.
    To remove firmware:
  2. Click Remove Firmware. The Remove Firmware screen displays.
  3. Enable the <targeted line item checkbox> and click Execute. A Firmware Management screen displays showing the targeted line item, and the status (complete or not complete) of the remove operation.
  4. Add firmware by clicking Add Firmware.
  5. Click Scan to load the Filter panel below and to the left of the Directory field with all of the firmware versions. The default SDM location for firmware is shown in the illustration (/home/sdm/firmware).

If loading firmware from CD-ROM, change the path to the CD drive (/media/cdrom/, or /media/cdrecorder/, or /media/dvdrecorder/, depending on your hardware platform) and click Scan as necessary to browse to the target folder location and load the firmware.

  6. Filter the list:
    • Highlight All and click Filter to list all device types and firmware revisions presently defined in the SDM.
    • Highlight a <single line item> in the filter panel and click Filter to display only those table rows pertinent to that item.
    • To load a single line item firmware, enable the <targeted line item checkbox> and click Execute. A Firmware Management screen displays, showing the targeted line item and the status (complete or not complete) of the load operation.
    • To load all table line items, click Check All and click Load.
    • A Status screen displays, showing the list of firmware items to be loaded and the status (complete or not complete) of the load operation. Click the Auto Refresh checkbox to cause the status screen to update every 10 seconds automatically.
    • To show Configured/Device firmware discrepancies, in the Firmware Management screen click Show Discrepancies. The Firmware Discrepancies Report displays.
NOTE: If using removable media (such as a USB memory device) to transfer firmware files, the files must be transferred to the SDM in compressed (zipped) file format. Due to differences between the file systems on the removable media and on Linux, if the files are copied directly (not zipped) from the removable drive to the SDM, some of the file names are changed to lower case. This results in unexpected behavior by devices related to the firmware.
