To ensure that the ServAssure Collection Platform operates correctly and reports accurate time stamps, you must configure Network Time Protocol (NTP) time synchronization within the Operating System to a common NTP server.
In a typical ServAssure Collection Platform deployment, all systems are configured as NTP clients, and the clients are served by one or more stratum-2 or stratum-3 NTP servers. It is preferable that the NTP servers be on your enterprise network, but they can be public servers on the Internet, provided that their geographic proximity and access policies are appropriate to your environment.
- During the deployment planning phase, identify the NTP servers that will provide time synchronization services to your ServAssure Collection Platform systems.
- Configure the operating systems of each server as NTP clients, and ensure that they are synchronized.
If the ServAssure Collection Platform servers are virtualized, it is understandable that the platform may provide time synchronization at the hardware virtualization layer. If this is the case, verify that each virtual machine is synchronized appropriately.
