VTM scaling

VTM supports 4 DACs, 4 VUEs, and 4000 RxD devices.

Certificate and DAC 6000 communication

When the IP address is changed on the DAC 6000, a new certificate must be obtained from the CommScope PKI work center for the DAC 6000 to ensure that successful communication between VTM and the DAC 6000 is maintained. Refer to the DAC 6000 Online Help to generate the Certificate Signing Request (CSR). Once generated, contact CommScope Technical Assistance Center (TAC).

Moving a VUE to VTM management

We highly recommend that VTM be used to configure VUE from the start. If VUE was previously configured from the VUE Element Manager, contact the VUE Product Support (or Technical Services) Team for assistance.

NOTE: The Technical Services team can assist with exporting relevant information from VUE, preparing it, and importing it into the VTM to allow VTM management of the VUE. See Technical services.

Firewall port requirements

If firewall access to the VUE from the VTM client is required, then the following port needs to be open:
5557
Secure HTTPs VTM/VUE communication
31514
SYSLOG processing for VUE alarms from the VUE.
32092
RxD metric data from VUE servers to Domain Manager

Required VUE configurations

Prior to various types of Service Group configuration on VTM, configure the following in the VUE system:

  • Narrowcast Service Group: The appropriate configuration of Virtual IP addresses (VIPs) must be in place in the VUE system.

  • For VTM to receive and process RxD metric data via Domain Manager Telemetry pipeline, each VUE server hosting an AUX core must be configured to transmit the RxD metric data. Additionally, the DM/VTM host, VUE VPS2 and each VUE Application Server must be date/time synchronized.

NOTE: Refer to the VUE Installation Guide to configure the Telegraf agent and the CommScope HLX Domain Manager User Guide for the specific Telegraf configuration parameters.
  • The VUE system must be configured to transmit alarms and events to VTM.

NOTE: Refer to the VUE Installation Guide to configure the VUE system to send syslog alarms.

RPD and RMD compatibility

VTM supports both CommScope and third-party RPDs and RMDs with 1x1, 1x2, and 2x2 downstream and upstream interfaces.

Domain Manager Operations

Special configuration procedures must be performed on Domain Manager to allow the Domain Manager Telemetry Pipeline to receive VUE metric data. Contact the CommScope TAC for assistance with this issue.

A patch must be installed on Domain Manager HLX 3.0 to correct VUE alarm processing in the Telemetry Pipeline. Contact the CommScope TAC for assistance with this issue.
