Upstream SCTE 55-1 Out of Band messaging requires upstream MAC cells be forwarded to the VUE using UEPI streams. The VUE de-encapsulates the upstream data, and forwards ARPD datagrams to a Network Controller, such as the NC1500.

The VUE configures one or more RPDs/RMDs to act as a single upstream path associated with a Virtual ARPD. The RPDs are configured with a Source ID, RF port ID and Demod ID of the virtual ARPD. Multiple RPDs/RMDs with the same Source ID are located within the same virtual ARPD where a subset of these RPDs/RMDs can be provisioned with different RF ports. RPDs/RMDs provisioned with the same RF port and Source ID act as a single upstream path and must be assigned the same set of demods and frequencies.

Follow the steps in this task to create a Virtual ARPD for de-encapsulating upstream SCTE 55-1 UEPI streams from RPDs/RMDs.

  1. Login to Element Manager, https://<VPS#2_IP_address:5557>.
  2. Click VARPD on the left navigation pane.
  3. Choose the specific server on which you want to create the transport stream from the drop-down list.
  4. Click Add icon to configure the VARPD upstream TS.
  5. Enter the values as necessary:
    ParameterDescription
VARPD NameEnter a Virtual ARPD Name.
Input InterfaceSpecify the input interface to receive the UEPI input stream from the RPD. The interface can be configured with an IPV4 or with an IPV6 address. The VUE VARPD service can only receive UEPI streams through IPV6 and IPV4 singlecast.
Output InterfaceSpecify the output interface to transmit the ARPD stream to the NC1500. This is typically the control/management interface (eth0) as the NC1500 is on the management network.
    NOTE:

If you have selected a specific VUE server from the drop-down list, then only the output interface IP of that server will be available.

Destination NC1500 IPDestination IP address to transmit the ARPD stream. The destination IP must be a IPV4 address.
Destination NC1500 UDPThe destination output port of NC1500.
Source ID0 – 0xFFFFFFFF (This must be configured to the correct Source ID of the ARPD stream from the RPD. VUE will discard all packets that do not have a matching Source ID. Example configuration: ARPD IP configured in NC1500 as 192.168.30.247 and Source ID is 0xC0A81EF7(Hex of 192.168.30.247)

After configuring parameters, click Submit to validate and apply the parameters or click Cancel to disregard the change.

  6. Verify that VARPD parameters are configured successfully by checking the VARP on the VARPD table.
Click the ellipsis menu (More options) to the right of the VARPD entry and select Stats option to view output data rate sent to the NC1500.
