To create an Upstream Spectrum Session, you must fill in the fields of the Create New Upstream Spectrum Session dialog box.
Upstream Spectrum Sessions dialog box
  1. Enter a name for your session in Session Name.
  2. Enter the channel for the session in CMTS @ Channel Name.
As soon as you start typing, matching names are displayed.
  3. In Duration, enter the length of time for your session in minutes. The maximum is 360 minutes (6 hours).
  4. Select the options for your session.
NOTE: Available options are dependent on the CMTS selected in CMTS @ Channel Name and the selected mode. Some options may be unavailable depending on CMTS vendor support.
    1. Select the Mode.
For details on the difference, see Upstream Spectrum capture summary.
NOTE: Compatibility Mode is only shown when the CMTS selected in CMTS @ Channel Name is an E6000 CER CMTS.
    2. If you selected Standard Mode, complete the following options:
      • Start Frequency
      • End Frequency
      • Samples
      • Service Identifier

For detailed descriptions, see Capture controls — standard mode.

    3. If you selected Static Pseudowire Mode, complete the following options:
      • Start Frequency
      • End Frequency
      • Service Identifier

For detailed descriptions, see Capture controls — Static Pseudowire mode.

    4. If you selected Compatibility mode, complete the following options:
      • IUC
      • Service Identifier
      • Samples

For detailed descriptions, see Capture controls — compatibility mode.

    5. Select the Type, Fullband or Passband.
      • Fullband — This capture type represents the entire range of frequencies the CMTS can capture. Typically, this is the range from 5MHz to about 100MHz.
      • Passband — This capture type represents specific frequencies or wavelengths on a channel.
    6. Domain is set to Frequency. There are no other options.
    1. Enter the Capture Interval, the number of seconds between samples.
    2. Select the value for Peak Scan, Enabled or Disabled.
When enabled, the Spectrum Session heat map graphs the highest value for each group of ten samples, rather than each individual sample. Enabling peak scan can aid detecting impulse noise.
  5. Click Confirm to start your Upstream Spectrum Session, or Cancel to close the dialog box without starting the session.
Successful creation of an Upstream Spectrum Session starts the session immediately. You can see the progress on the Capture tab. For more information, see Upstream Spectrum Session heat map.
