Northbound Filtering provides the ability to create filter sets, and assign a filter set to northbound destinations. A filter set is a user-configured set of parameters which specify which traps are sent (included) or dropped (excluded) on the way to their destination. The filter set assigns a destination which determines whether a trap sent to a destination drops, or arrives at the destination.

  1. Navigate to the SDM menu bar.
  2. Select Fault > Northbound Filter, or from the SDM user interface (below), select Fault > Northbound Filtering. The Northbound Filtering Page is displays.

The filter sets created on the SDM are listed on this page. The first entry is the default filter set, Send All Alarms. It passes all alarms over the northbound interface. The default filter set cannot be modified or deleted.

Elements available on the Northbound Filtering Page include:

    • A northbound destination can have only one filter-set at a time.
    • A given filter set can be assigned to multiple destinations at the same time.
    • A cell in the matrix is highlighted only if the filter set in that row has been assigned to the northbound destination in that column. A highlighted cell is displayed in:green if the corresponding destination is enabled, or gray if the corresponding destination is disabled.
  3. Customize a filter set by clicking the Modify button associated with that filter set. The Northbound Filter Set window displays. This window provides the ability to:
