Problem

Possible Solution

Device discovery failed.

Firmware Missing - The current firmware version/model combination has not been loaded into the SDM and the SDM cannot discover the device. Select Administration

Firmware Management and load the required firmware/model into the SDM and rerun discovery.

Database Error - A temporary condition has prevented the SDM from storing device information in the database. If the discovery process did not complete, rerun the discovery for this device. If the problem persists, contact the ARRIS TRC.

If the affected device is a CS 1000, verify that you are not running an unsupported version of the CS 1000 firmware. Upgrade if necessary.

If the affected device is a DAC 6000, run the sdm_config program on the DAC 6000 to reset its SNMP port and sysOID.

Discovery will also fail if the group is set as unmanaged. To set the group to Manage Device:

  1. Click Networks in the View List.

  2. Right-click the <target network icon> in the Active Window.

  3. Select Properties from the pop-up window.

  4. Enable Manage Network (checkmark) in the Network Properties window.

Values are not displayed in the parameter fields in a device's properties window.

The SDM retrieves these values directly from the device using SNMP. Verify that the device is available by pinging the device.

If the device is available and this problem occurs intermittently, increase the SNMP timeout values.

The SDM does not assign device names to devices during discovery or the SDM displays the error message: "Failed to find an IP address from name resolver for the specified device name."

The device name must exist in the SDM's hosts file or domain server when adding or copying a device using a name.

The SDM hosts file is located in /etc/hosts.
