Device parameters can be modified and new devices can be added using a comma separated value (CSV) file that is edited in Microsoft® Excel® and then uploaded to the SDM database. The process involves the following steps, detailed in the sections below:
- Build a CSV File
- Format a Parameter List CSV File (or Format a Device List CSV File)
- Upload the CSV File
Using the device configuration file provides a quick way to add or modify device information for multiple devices; however, it should be noted that devices, especially SEMs, have a large number of parameters.
For example, if you wished to change the IP addresses for all of the SEMs in your SDM database, you can generate a device configuration file for a targeted SEM, modify the IP address of each SEM listed in the CSV file, and then upload the file to the SDM. After verifying your changes on the Reports screen, you can then execute the changes to have all of the IP addresses for SEMs updated in the SDM.
If, before using the device configuration procedure, you wish to have an inventory of all of the devices in the SDM available as a reference, including device information such as device names and IP addresses, click Reports > User Defined Reports > Inventory Report. An Inventory Report is generated. Click the file name to save the report.
