  1. Click on the Menu bar, select Configuration, and then Add Device. The Add New Device window displays.
  2. Enter or select the following information:
    • Unique name of the device
    • Device type
    • Device model
    • Firmware version
    • Device's IP address
    • Device's subnet mask
    • Gateway - If there is no gateway, type 0.0.0.0
    • Device's MAC address - Type the MAC address using colons as separators
  3. Click OK when the confirmation dialog box opens.

    To add another device, repeat steps 1 through 3. After you have finished adding devices, proceed to the next step.

  4. Double-click Groups (in the View List) to expand the tree list. Continue to expand the tree list until the target group icon for the device is visible.
  5. Click the <parent group> of the target group; the target group icon is displayed in the Active Window. In the Active Window, right-click the <target group icon>.
  6. Select View Map from the dropdown list. The new device is now with the other group devices in the Active Window.
    Options:
    • The added device is assigned to a group when network mapping is defined - when the option in undefined, the device is added to the unassigned group.)
    • Double-click the device to display its properties window. You can also access the device by clicking in the View List, and then double-clicking the device from the list in the Active Window.
  7. Click the Administration tab in the device Properties window.
  8. Click the Unconditional radio button, and click Apply.
  9. BOOTP the device by removing and then reapplying power. Wait until the device comes up.
  10. Discover the device. If you have added multiple devices, discover the range of IP addresses that applies to those devices. See Discovering Devices for more information.

    If you have added multiple devices, you must set the Trap Receiver IP address so that traps can be viewed on the SDM:

    • From the menu bar, click Configuration > Global Parameters. The Update Global Parameters window is displayed:
    • From the Group dropdown list, select the <group> or select All to set all device groups.
    • From the Device Type dropdown list, select a <device> or select .All
    • Click the Set Trap Receiver Address radio button (filled). The SDM radio button is automatically enabled (filled).
    • Click Apply. An Updating Global Parameters pop-up is displayed.
    • Click Yes.
  11. Add the Trap Receiver IP address to the device's parameter (if you have added a single device).
    • From the device's Device Properties window, select the Administration tab.
    • In the Trap Destination Parameters window, type the <trap receiver IP address> in the Rcv Address field.

    (Optional) In the Process BOOTP Request window on the Administration tab, click Conditional or Disable. Select Conditional for the SDM to send a response back only if changes are present in the BOOT Prequest. Select Disable to disable BOOTP request processing.

  12. Click the Configuration & Status tab and add the necessary parameters. When adding a non-configured device, the appropriate configuration parameters must be added.
  13. Click Apply. Some changes will require you to reboot the device.

    If the device you have added is accessible to the SDM using the provided IP address, the SDM attempts to retrieve the configuration parameters from the device. Otherwise, the device configuration parameters are set to the system default values.

    If a device does not have a valid IP address, or the device is not available when it is first added to the SDM, the device configuration parameters are set to the system default values.
