The SmartStream Device Manager (SDM) enables cable operators to manage ARRIS digital video elements. The SDM is a platform, providing a single configuration point for digital video headend products, simplified fault detection, smart alarm management, and an interface to integrated network management systems. The SDM provides both management of configuration and monitoring in one easy-to-use solution.
Major functions provided by the SDM are:
Configuration Management: Provides basic IP provisioning, device discovery, code object download, BOOTP management, basic topology, limited firmware management, synchronization of device configuration information, and a graphical user interface (GUI) for editing and viewing configuration and status parameters.
Fault Management: Provides the ability to monitor the operating status of headend devices, conduct status polling, and process events and alarms. It also provides alarm reporting locally on the SDM and the ability to pass alarm information upstream to a network management system.
Performance Management: Provides the ability to poll statistical parameters from the headend device and process threshold alarms. It also provides limited report generation capabilities.
SDM operation is implemented through the SDM Client, which runs on a PC and is browser-accessed.
